The 2009 Schoolhouse Planner~Review & Give Away

by Just_Aimee on June 30, 2009

2009HSPlannerCoverMD I am so excited about the 2009 Schoolhouse Planner published by the Old Schoolhouse Magazine! This resource will be a lifesaver for me. It’s price is steep at first glance–$39…but I know it will be worth every penny…(there are 375 pages to love)

I am a very eclectic homeschooler (semi-unschooler–would be totally unschool but that philosophy kind of freaks out my parents and husband) BUT I live in a state where we are required to turn in a portfolio and book log and calendar…

Which brings me to the first reason I love this planner…I usually get to the end of the year and am scrambling to remember what books we read and different things we did…This planner has a monthly calendar which lets you type on the each day…so I will be able to type a quick note of what we have done on each day….plus it has form (which you can also type on) to keep track of books used…so even for the ‘unplanner’ this calendar is totally valuable.

Speaking of forms…the second reason I love this calendar is that is chock-full of forms for just about anything you could image. Click here to see the table of contents for yourself…but to give you some examples…Homeschool Forms like annual plan, educational objectives, planning resources/schedules, field trip journals, nature logs, science lab forms…the list goes on (over 70 pages of useful homeschooling forms).

BUT that is not all…it also has over 40 pages of Household Forms covering everything from a Prayer journal, Christmas card list, chore charts, budgeting, to meal planning, grocery lists, car maintenance schedule AND everything in between.

My favorite part of this planner (the third reason it is an indispensable resource) are the articles and recipes. Each month features an article on a different topic (such as Emergency Preparedness in October or Miracles & Parables of Jesus in February)…which, for me, will be a great starting place on things to teach my children when it comes to our more ‘formal’ schooling stuff…but still eclectic enough to keep us from getting bored.

Each month also highlights two easy-to-make recipes…I am always looking for new things to cook for my family.

Again…check out the Table of Contents...I am sure you will love what you see…and want to go out and get the 2009 Schoolhouse Planner to start planning or unplanning the 09-10 school year.

The Give Away: Win $39 gift certificate to the Old Schoolhouse Store so you can get this very cool planner (or some other great resource!)…

How to Enter:

Wow, that sounds like a grab bag of stuff.

They have recipes in there – I love that – I want the unstuffed zuchinni recipe and the poppy seed chicken recipe. Oh wait, you want a form – I like the community service hours form.

I already follow you on Twitter

I already subscribe to your blog

Well, I was going down the list in the table of contents, prepared to answer your question as asked – when my brain got stuck on two words: Tuna and Spaghetti.

Tuna and spaghetti????

I think it would be worth it even to just see how on EARTH they managed to combine those two things into one recipe. *grin*

All the forms look very cool. >^..^<

(and we're relaxed-eclectic as well)

Molytail June 30, 2009 at 7:06 pm

I subscribed – I think I did it right.. first time I’ve seen one go straight into my bookmarks! Pretty cool, it has a list of your entries in a pop out menu. “Live bookmarks”, neat. :-)

Glad to have found you (through @monicabrand’s RT on Twitter!). This looks like an amazing resource. I think my favorite part would be the lessons and resource lists every month. I’m also heavy on the unschooling/eclectic side, but I like to have some “plans” in place. Great giveaway – I subscribed and tweeted.

Oops, I blogged the giveaway, but forgot your button – I included it in my blog post.

I like the miscellaneous educational information. That is unexpected.

Not sure how to follow the blog… lol… still trying to find that, is it like blogspot? LOL
Think I’m gonna grab the button though and try to figure out how to put that on my blogspot… I’m new there also… so hopefully I’ll do it right. LOL I did tweet about the giveaway though, and I followed you. :D

Thinking of only one reason I’m coveting this planner might be difficult! I love, love, love that everything is in one spot. I especially like the recipes. If you have run out of dinner ideas for the week, you have several to choose from within your planner.

Oh, and I’m already following you on Twitter, so do I still get one entry? :-)

Molytail July 1, 2009 at 10:40 am

Tamika – look way up top, on the right hand side, just underneath the pretty logo, above the twitter stuff… click where it says “Subscribe” – it uses something called “Live Bookmarks” and will put itself in your bookmarks with a neat little pop-out menu thing giving the most recent posts. :-)

I heart TOS enough to invest in this myself. But I will tweet about it anyway. :)

Go TOS!

Twelve year planner page? Are you kidding? I got physically dizzy reading the table of contents. I’d love to have it just as a novelty. Something to drool on and wish I was organized. I know better. But I’d love to try again! Maybe this is the planner that will kick my butt in to gear. Sign me up.

sprittibee July 1, 2009 at 12:00 pm

That owl is ridiculously cute. :)

sprittibee July 1, 2009 at 12:01 pm

Followed you on twitter.

melissa July 1, 2009 at 12:01 pm

Hi! I’m new to blogging, twittering, and everything else that is done on computers other than email! :) I am so excited about the new planner. I am going to be semi homeschooling next year for the first time…my oldest, a 6th grader. We’ll be at a classical Christian academy 2 days a week and then home 3. I’m nervous and excited and scared to death!! I love everything about the planner since all this is new to me, I don’t know which part will be most helpful. I’ve tried to do all 5 steps in your give away, but I’m lost on how to accomplish 1, 3, 5. (unless this is considered 1, he he!) Not sure how to tweet and no clue what your button is! :) Hope you can give this newbie some guidance.

Amanda July 1, 2009 at 6:40 pm

I am really excited about the Household Forms!

Amanda July 1, 2009 at 6:41 pm

I subscribed to your blog! :)

Amanda July 1, 2009 at 6:43 pm

I tweeted it!!

Amanda July 1, 2009 at 6:44 pm

I’m following you on Twitter…..

Molytail July 2, 2009 at 5:10 am

Katy – for those options:

1. Yep, looks like you did that one – you left a comment and did say how excited you were about the new planner. If you want to see the “table of contents” that she’s talking about, click on the blue text in the post where it mentions the “table of contents” and a PDF document will open (if you have Adobe Acrobat Reader – if you don’t, you can download that here .. but you probably already have it. The document shows the table of contents for the planner.

3. “Tweet” – means to post something on Twitter.. do you have a Twitter account? It’s.. well, it’s a “micro blogging” sort of thing. You can publish thoughts (sentences, links, replies to other people, whatever) that are 140 characters or less. So, to “tweet” about this contest, you could say, on your twitter page, “2009 Schoolhouse Planner Giveaway @Just_Aimee http://bit.ly/5W3uv” .. and still have 75 characters left if you want to add a comment like “looks awesome!” or something. The funny looking url is a shortened link that will bring a person to this exact blog post — the actual url up top (and many urls) are quite long, using up lots of characters, so many people use sites like tinyurl.com and http://bit.ly/ to make shorter urls. The @Just_Aimee part connects your tweet to Aimee on twitter as well.

5. Buttons – buttons are cute little square graphics that link to blogs, business, etc… look over on the right hand side of Aimee’s blog here, in the sidebar…below the cute little “Follow me on Twitter” bird (see him?) …there’s a graphic there that has Aimee’s blog name on it and an adorable owl. Directly underneath, in a box, is a bunch of gooblegook. *grin* …That gobblygook is the code that allows you to put that cute graphic on your OWN blog, in a sidebar or somewhere, and it will let readers of YOUR blog click through and land on Aimee’s blog. I’m thinking maybe you don’t have your own blog though, as you didn’t create a link to it when you posted your reply here?

Hope that helps! :)

(and anyone else – If you see something buggered up in my explanations to Katy, plz correct!)

Molytail July 2, 2009 at 5:12 am

Dang it, I messed up the adobe link in #1 .. where it says “you can download that here” – that should be a link…maybe it didn’t like it.. here it is just pasted:

It’s hard to choose just one thing. The HS forms are awesome! I had the pleasure of reviewing this planner last year and would love to get a copy this year. How exciting to have it updated and even better! :-)

I’m AndieTweets on Twitter – I already follow you :) But I just subscribed to your blog and tweeted about this excellent and thorough review. To be honest, you did such a comprehensive job of outlining its benefits that I am strongly considering buying it even if I don’t win. Thanks!

Tracy July 2, 2009 at 7:34 pm

Wow, wow, wow… this seems like a terrific resource – and it’s hard for me to choose which form I like best!
Added you to my Google reader (it’s under another email, if you need to verify it) – thanks!!
