My husband is Assistant Chief of our town’s 100% Volunteer Fire Department…if you know anything about firemen, you know they are passionate about “all things fire.” (In fact, I think my husband probably owns only 3 shirts that aren’t somehow fire-related)…
And one of the most fun things is checking out other departments trucks and stations…
I do have to admit that in the last 14 years, I have developed a bit of an appreciation for ‘all things fire’ but still find it kind of boring…
That was until the city next to us commissioned artists to decorate their fire hydrants. As we are having mainly a staycation, it was a lot of fun roaming the city and finding all the hydrants that have been decorated. There are a lot of unique and fun designs.
So if you find yourself in Harrisburg, PA and looking for a fun family adventure or even a date night…you can roam the downtown searching for these cool hydrants.

That is so neat! I would LOVE to be able to paint like that.
What a wonderful idea! It promotes the arts along with keeping fire safety at the forefront. Our city once commissioned these giant sheep statues that were painted by various artists and placed all around the downtown. I thought it kinda odd, but would love to see painted hydrants.

That is really neat to have a decorated fire hydrant. The art work on it is beautiful. We have a volunteer fire department too in this small town. I had a new appreciation for the fire department as I watched them one night at a fire across the street. All the hustle and bustle they do. It’s something not just one truck comes but ALL of them when there is a fire in this town. Many different trucks too. Have a great weekend.
